We Don’t Talk About…Anything

Better to ban it than talk about it — Forget “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.” It's just a Disney tune. But here in the good old United States of America, we have embraced that Disney theme. …

How a Little Junior High Stole the Profits from a National Portrait Chain

An industry disruption that sparked, then fizzled for lack of school district courage — These days it seems teachers are always begging for money. As a classroom teacher, I was the biggest benefactor of my own program. My personal philosophy was: This is my career, and I’m not planning to spend my entire career just getting by with the school district’s miserly resources. My…

The Nuts & Bolts of Foolproof Sourdough Bread

A simple guide to a healthy loaf of sourdough bread without the guesswork I’m not a baker by trade. I’m a retired teacher with plenty of time to work through the sourdough process. I’ve done so enough times that I can consistently produce a beautiful loaf of artisan, sourdough bread…

Sure they do.

Sure they do. And they need you to shell out more money every time they roll out a new phone. So pony up and let's see if we can fill the landfills with more electronic junk. After all how could one possibly go on living without the latest features Apple has to offer?

Shinning city?

Shinning city? Hardly, more like the butt of international jokes. We are a laughingstock, a country to be pitied, not followed. Half the country does not even believe in democracy anymore, instead they clamor for a fascist dictator. -- Well, one point in favor of a fascist dictator is that the first move will be to confiscate all the guns in America--got to consolidate that power. Probably the only way we will ever get gun control in the U.S.

… times, just wait a few decades, and this year’s extreme weather will feel like a walk in the park. All thanks to the fact the fossil fuel industry seems unable to stop its expansion.

Control and profit.

Control and profit. I dumped Apple long ago. In the early '90s I started building my own PC's, even building 35 PCs for a computer lab at a new middle school where I was hired to run the computer program. With a few spare parts on hand the lab never suffered any down time because I could swap parts myself. When need I could upgrade parts, rather than replace the entire unit.

If left to big business, fossil fuels will not end until the last penny of profit is rung out of it. Now that there alternative modes of transportation it seems like a good time to begin rationing gasoline. Rationing because it effects the rich as well as the poor as…

…efinitely. I could. But I don’t. Because that would be a waste of my time and a disservice to them. They didn’t do anything “wrong” other than buy the bill of goods the government and corporate America sold to them — the American dream — and get while the getting was good.

But of course no other generation would have done the same in our place.

But of course no other generation would have done the same in our place. I played the cards I was delt. Many boomers are living on the street, many are Vietnam vets. I offer no apologies to younger generation who might prefer I and my family were homeless just to make them feel better. -- For many generations each newly minted generation was expected to do better than the last. Boomers were the last generation to achieve that outcome. All that abruptly ended with the advent of "Trickle Down Economics." Want a villain, look to the one percent , their tax avoidance and the vast inequality created by lack of regulation, poor tax policy and selfish leadership. I had control of NONE of that.
