Conservatives label the poor and working poor "takers" and disparage them for not pulling themselves by their "bootstraps." Pure bullshit. I find the alliance between Christians and Conservatives to be particularly bewildering. I was raised to believe that Christians looked out for the poor. At least that was the party line when I was a Christian. But that was forty some years ago. Christianity has wandered so far afield that they dumped Jesus and his teaching for Donald Trump and the Art of the Deal.

This country worships wealth and billionaires and looks down their nose at the poor. It's a pretty sad state of affairs. Somewhere along the line we traded our democracy for a kleptocracy. I lost all faith in the US about seven years ago.
