Ending the draft was a political move. During the Vietnam era, there were constant protests on college campuses. As soon as the draft ended, protests ended. Now the US was free to wage war without fear of protest on the home front. It worked, we were in Afghanistan for 20 years with hardly a whimper of protest from American citizens and peace and quiet on college campuses.

We need the draft to keep America honest. All Americans need skin in the game so they pay attention to the conflicts America gets involved in. We were in Vietnam to make the world safe for democracy. What a crock of shit. Vietnam is a communist country and American tourists crawl around in the tunnels American servicemen died in.

We went into Iraq looking for weapons of mass destruction. We found no weapons of mass destruction, but we kept the oil flowing. We impost 177,000 barrels a day from Iraq.

We went into Afghanistan for revenge, just days after 9/11. We had a goal. Kill bin Laden, kill the Al Quaeda terrorists and deny Afghanistan as an operating base for terrorists. We should have left after we killed bin Laden, but we stayed for 10 more years--no draft.
