I always wonder how Navy personal can live and work within feet of the nuclear powerplant in our submarines and our ten Nimitz class aircraft carriers? Makes me wonder if small reactors are safer than big ones.

SMR's (small nuclear reactors) can generate around 300 megawatts and are factory built and delivered to a location for use. Seems like small nukes could deliver a steady baseline of electricity to augment wind and solar.
