I can hope our system of checks and balances can hold Trump in check, but that does not mean I have to like or respect him. I fully understand how our system of checks and balances are supposed to work, but I believe that he has corrupted the process. He's already stacked the judiciary in his favor. Congress only votes on partisan lines, compromise is a thing of the past. Then you have to consider his appointments, he does not appoint people because of their expertise in their field, instead loyalty is his only consideration.

The bottom line is that I sincerely hope our system of checks and balances can hold him in check, but I have serious doubts about that which led me to comment on your article.

Give the fear and rage trope a rest. I don't like or respect the man for all the "horrible" things he says and does. I don't understand what people expect Trump to deliver that they can overlook all of his obvious faults.

I reread your article and reviewed my post. You opened with the question: Why Are Democrats So Fearful of a Second Trump Presidency? (Which led me to assume you were interested in what people thought.)
I'll stick with my original answer to that question:
"These are hardly safeguards anymore. Trump stacked the Supreme court and congressional Republicans are a bunch of Trump bootlickers. But I will save this article and see how it bears out. Trump is a vindictive little shit, so I expect the worst, but what else can you expect from a felon and sex offender."
