I can see the concept of an individual teacher-bot to an extent. But consider the continuum of responsibility and motivation. Beginning in kindergarten the teacher is totally responsible for student learning through college where the student must take on the responsibility for his learning. In public school the teacher is charged with motivating students and aiding in their progress. By college the unmotivated can simply fall by the wayside and fail.

The the highly motivated a teacher-bot can provide adequate incentive, the less motivated need human intervention.

As for the preparation of elementary school teachers and the multiple subject credentials, teacher training needs a complete overhaul.

I retrained as a teacher at midlife, I was 34. As far as I'm concerned, my training was worthless. You would think that preparing elementary school teacher might include some clear instruction on how to teach reading--you'd be wrong. I taught 1st and 2nd graders for eight years. I learned to teach reading on the job. I was fortunate because I'm an innovator, never content with the status quo. I have no idea how the plodders got the job done; I suppose they relied on the teacher's guide--a dull, dry, unimaginative resource for the page turners.
