I can't count the number of times I've seen couples sit down at a restaurant and pull out their phones. Sometimes the waitress must wake them from their stupor long enough to look at the menu and order. Forget conversation, never happens. My son told me of a first date, where the woman kept checking her phone. My son excused himself with, "Sorry to bore you," and left her with the bill.
