I have never heard of it happening before. I just got rid of it. Of course the quote to repair it was more than the cost of a new one.

Everything is built to break down--planned obsolescence. We need to move to appliances with easily replaceable parts. Instead they make things difficult and expansive to repair. Dishwashers are the worst. The repairman said you might as well buy the cheapest and plan to replace it every three years, because that's about all any of them last.

If appliances were built like a desktop computer I would simple replace the broken part, instead of replacing the entire unit.
