I taught 5th grade in the 80s and 90s so I'm familiar with the history curriculum. It's a very sanitized version of history. Critical Race Theory is a high level academic legal theory. It’s something one might encounter in college. It’s not taught anywhere in elementary, junior high or high school. Someone might ask a teacher about the curriculum before condemning the school system for teaching something that does not exist at K-12 level. The theory posits that in order to understand persistent racism today we have to have an honest understanding of how blacks were treated during slavery and segregation. That’s it in a nutshell. There is no condemnation of whites other than acknowledging that blacks were mistreated. I don’t see how anyone could argue that slavery was a good thing, or that segregation was a fair way to treat people.

It’s just like my mom loved to complain the the schools never said the Pledge of Allegiance anymore. My wife and I were lifelong teachers teaching at different school districts. We both knew that the pledge was said every morning in all the classes. One school did it school wide over the PA system. But my mom chose to believe Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. I invited her to drop in any morning about 5 minutes after the first bell. Never came, she bought the bullshit and never bothered to check it out for herself. There is no fixing that stubbornness. CRT is the conservative’s latest whipping boy, a boogeyman who does not exist. All I’m saying is visit a school and check it out for yourself. Tucker Carlson loves to rant and rave, it’s great for ratings and that’s all they care about.
