I taught history as part of the fifth grade curriculum for three years. For the first two I ignored the textbook at taught an accurate version of US history using alternate sources, but I was at a poor-performing school at the low end of the socioeconomic spectrum. The third year I moved to a solidly middle class school with involved parents, I presented history in the same manner as the previous two years. But at this school conservative parents complained to the principal that I was not using the approved text. The principal was a wish-washy good for nothing who tossed the complaint to the district office. I had a choice, teach the authorized curriculum approved by the state of California or be terminated. The next year I moved to computer science at a junior high.

Finding the humor in a world of frustration. Always learning, usually the hard way.
