I was born in 1952. My dad was an upholster. He put new fabric on old furniture. He was trained for it under the GI Bill. My mom never worked when we were kids. I remember driving dad to work because we only had one car. But my parents could afford that car and purchase a home on one laborers' salary. We were never hungry and we always had new school clothes.
