It is absurd to even consider such an increase, yet we stumble blindly into the future of gross over population without any consideration of population control. There is no benefit to having a population of 7.8 billion over the 4 billion we had in the 1960s.

Publications are chock full of articles speculation about how we will feed 12 billion, but nothing about why we should avoid that plight at all costs.
