My youngest son just graduated with degree in math, got his teaching credential and has his first job at a junior high. Doing his student teaching last year he was appalled at the level of the junior high students. Students who don't even understand basic math facts. In general it seems the US citizens perfer to wallow in ignorance, it's become a badge of honor.
