Recyclable is important, but durable goods need to be durable and repairable, built to last and be repaired over and over again. When I remodeled our kitchen from the original build in 1939, I bought quality appliances, but the dishwasher started breaking down after 3 years. After repairing it twice the repairman said it was “gonners.” I asked him for the most durable dishwasher to replace it with, he said,” There were none. The best I could due was plan on replacement every three years.” Now we simply do the dishes by hand, I refuse to play their replacement game.

It's interesting that a commercial dishwasher that costs several thousand dollars, gets the job done in 3-5 minutes cycles while the household dishwashers run for an hour or more. If I ever replace the dishwasher, I’ll go the commercial route, they are built to last.
