Rest assured humanity will do nothing to alter its course. Humanity as a whole is like a giant out of control organism without a head or direction, it simply consumes all available resources without regard for other species.

We could live sustainably for many generation with a smaller population that the planet can support. Instead our population will continue to grow, demanding more energy, fouling the environment, straining food resources, straining all resources until the breaking point where something gives and the whole house of cards tumbles down.
