Oh I get it, those were just simple citizens, not important compared to a politician being targeted.

You know you missed the most important item in your list. Aren't we supposed to send in our thoughts and prayers? That's what the politicians do and it's been very effective at curbing violence. In fact with enough thoughts and prayers these pols would not even need Secret Service protection.
