The corporate quest from growth and overconsumption has to come to an end. We can't keep growing and consuming more and more. Capitalism is very entrenched in the US. And the wealthy would prefer to maintain their steady flow of profit. I think they will go down with the ship before having anything to do with meaningful change. It's hard to get any consensus on limiting population growth. Yet there has to be a limit. Why suffer through reaching that limit. To me it makes more sense to be proactive and walk the population back to 4 million. But people would rather talk about what it would take to feed 12 million. Why is 12 million better than 4 million?

Most likely we will do nothing and suffer the consequences. As you point out “we’ll still be arguing whether or not it’s real” as it kills us. The last four years have been a real eye opener for me. I never thought our population was so ignorant, yet when it’s impossible to convince someone that a simple mask is a reasonable precaution even when their own children’s lives are at state at school, what other conclusion is there?
