The important things in life are hard to measure. How do you measure contribution to society? I operated a business for 34 years employing a dozen people a year on average. I was also a public-school teacher for twenty of those years. That’s where I thought my value resided, yet it was a career choice, my job. At my first school I had a custodian in my wing who took great pride in her work. Her work ethic caused everyone to up their game, while the average custodian seems to just punch the clock. Within the school she was a rockstar, but outside, who knew? How do you measure that?

I tend to agree with a fellow commentor, put the redistribution into great services for all. Better funding for education, universal health care, institutions and spending for the common good. If that’s labeled socialism then bring it on, but don’t overlook our biggest socialist institution the U.S. military. We all contribute our tax dollars for the common defense, so why can’t we fund other common good without labeling it socialism?
