The problem with social media is that it gives the crackpots a voice. Before they had to rely on word of mouth and that limitation kept their circle small, not so anymore. Also people turn to social media as a source of news. And why not mainstream media has become a biased shithole. I have not watched broadcast or cable TV for 36 years and I doubt I've missed a thing. Good sources of news are available, but they are mostly in the printed form and few take time to read more than a tweet anymore. It has definitely contributed to the dumbing-down of America.
