The same social media algorithms that channel ads focusing on what we like to buy are also channeling the articles that we like to read, complete with viewpoints where we already agree. We were not ready for social media and we are certainly not ready for the disappearance of print. Especially the in the age of Trump, when he makes a statement one day and denies it the next. There’s something permanent about printed facts archived some library that’s more permanent than digital information. I’d venture to guess that Trump would love some app that would scrub the internet of his daily lies. I know we landed on the moon, but what if the digital world could be “hacked” to say otherwise? Look at climate change. A lot of folks are struggling with the scientific facts on one side and the more corporate friendly narrative. I love all the information available on the internet, but in politics, especially politics, it’s easy to be led by the nose. You have to dig deeper and read widely. The average guy is not that serious, sports maybe, politics, not so much. The average guy watches a “news show” that most likely aligns with his views and reads a bit of social media that hones in on those same views. The result is the divide we see in the country today, a divide so deep, I don’t even want to share the country with the other side. I simply fail to understand what makes them tick.
