This is the fault of banks as well. When I started working in the '70s it was hard to get a credit card. One path was to try for a Sear's card to establish a payment history. Sears would give you a card with a $300 limit. Today people are flooded with credit card offers. It seems like banks are purposely setting people up for disaster.
