Very true for good teachers. As I noted elsewhere I was called on the carpet by our school board when I veered from the text. Ultra conservative parents are not interested in the truth. And when parents start calling board members you get called into the principal's office to explain why you are supplementing the textbook with contradictory material. Most kids don't get an honest look at history until their first college class, I didn't.
