We are a pluralistic society, yet we have stuck with two primary political parties. I have not felt represented by either party for years. Our two parties are constantly at loggerheads, the concept of compromise is completely lost. If we had three or more strong parties, we would be better off with the British system. There, unless you can form a coalition and actually get things accomplished, they must call for elections and start over.
