We do not have the resources right now to bring the world up to western standards. Right now a big hiccup in oil and natural gas and half the world would be facing starvation. We are totally dependent on fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides and fungicides derived from fossil fuels that our genetically modified crops depend on. If we switch to organic farming tomorrow our production would be cut in half.
