I don't think our version "free speech" is compatible with democracy. Not when a president can lie his ass off with impunity, and then continue lying his way to a second term. Our population is simply not intelligent enough to cut through all the shit.

Joseph Goebbels described how people could be induced to believe so colossal a lie because they would not believe that someone "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously." Hitler used that to turn long-standing antisemitism in Europe (read anti-immigrant in the U.S.) into mass murder.

With free speech we are absolutely defenseless against the lie and Trump never, never stops lying.

Something has to change, but it's most likely already too late.

Then you have an entire news network dedicated to repeating and amplifying Trump's lies. Democracy is simply not up to the challenge.

It's also interesting that Harris is expected to be flawless, but Trump always gets a pass on every inane thing is does or says. Plus the media always makes excuses for him, they always qualify his bullshit with he meant this or that.

In an alternate reality Trump should be a laughing stock, but in our reality he's revered as sent by God. A country is only so strong as it citizens and our citizenry is mighty pathetic these days.
